Why a filling is placed

Cavities form when acids from plaque soften enamel. A crack or worn spot can do the same. A filling removes the damaged part and rebuilds the tooth so decay does not travel deeper.

Smile Dental Clinic chooses the material after looking at the size of the cavity, the tooth’s position, and how you bite. Options include tooth-coloured composite and other restorative materials suited to the case.

How the visit works

Step 1

Check the tooth

We examine the cavity or crack and explain the filling that fits that tooth.

Step 2

Numb and clean

The area is numbed and decayed or weakened tooth structure is removed.

Step 3

Place the filling

The tooth is restored in layers or with the chosen material and shaped to your bite.

Step 4

Polish and advice

The filling is smoothed, your bite is checked, and home-care tips are shared.

What you can expect

Stops the cavity

Removing decay early avoids a larger procedure later.

Restores strength

The repaired tooth can chew more evenly again.

Natural look

Tooth-coloured fillings blend with the surrounding enamel.

Short visit

Many fillings are completed in a single comfortable appointment.

Caring for a new filling

Skip very hard or sticky foods until the numbness wears off so you do not bite your cheek. Sensitivity to cold can last a few days and usually settles.

Brush twice a day, clean between teeth, and come back if the filling feels high, chips, or the tooth stays painful. Regular check-ups help new cavities get treated while they are still small.
